How Expanded Metal Is Made
A single steel plate is slit and stretched in one continuous operation, so the mesh has no welds and no joints. This gives a structure that is rigid in both directions while using less material than a welded grid of similar strength. Applications
Machine guards and safety cages, walkway and stair treads, security screens for windows and gates, plaster reinforcement, filtration support layers, shelving, ceiling and facade grilles, and speaker or ventilation covers. Architecturally, expanded metal is often used as a sun shading screen because it blocks direct sun while allowing airflow.
