Random Packing: Practical, Robust and Easy to Retrofit

Where Random Packing Beats Other Internals
Random packing is simply poured into the column, so installation is fast, cost per cubic meter is lower than structured packing, and the bed tolerates moderate fouling. Pall rings in particular combine an open interior with a ring wall that redistributes liquid, giving good capacity and efficiency across a wide operating range.

Applications
Absorption and stripping towers, scrubbers for flue gas and acid gas, distillation and rectification columns, degassing and deodorizing towers, water treatment strippers and heat transfer beds. Random packing is also widely used in revamps where trays are removed to increase capacity.
Technical Support
We help clients select packing size based on column diameter to wall ratio, required HETP and allowable pressure drop, then quote the bed volume plus the necessary support plate, hold down grid and liquid distributor.
Delivery
Packing is packed in woven bags or cartons, palletized and clearly labelled by column and bed. Material certificates and dimensional reports are issued for each lot, and shipment scheduling is coordinated with turnaround dates.
Installation Notes
Random packing should be loaded dry and at a controlled rate to avoid breakage and to achieve the design bulk density. For ceramic-free metal packing, dumping from a bag directly into the column is acceptable, but the bed should be levelled before the hold down grid is fixed so gas does not channel through a high spot. When a column is retrayed or repacked during a turnaround, we can supply the exact volume plus a small allowance, and clearly label each bag by bed so that site teams know how much material belongs to each section. Support plates and hold down grids are quoted with the packing to avoid missing parts during the shutdown window.
